Ait Ben haddou 1 Day Trip is one of the best Marrakech outdoor activities, and one of the top recommended day trips from Marrakech.
It allows you to explore:
(1) the most beautiful fortified kasbahs dating between XVIII & XIX centuries such as Kasbah Ait Ben haddou; and Kasbah Telouet.
(2) Get the taste of the high Atlas mountain; and absorbing the atmosphere over these incredible landscape.
(3) Enjoying a drive along the former caravan route; which once was a link between North Africa and North of Morocco.
We will pick you up from your hotel; and start heading South East to the High Atlas mountains (Tichka pass 2260 m). From here we will drive down hill to Telouet; through the former caravan route which one time linked North Africa and Morocco.
Visit one of the oldest buildings in the Telouet region (Kasbah Telouet). This fortress can still be visited; but it is steadily becoming more damaged and it is slowly collapsing. Next we will continue driving along the Ounila valley; until we reach Ait Ben haddou.
Lunch and then go on a walk with a local guide which leads you to discover the history of this ksar. Late afternoon, lead by another route and return to Marrakech through the same Tichka Pass.
About Ait Ben Haddou
Founded in the 11th Century; although many of its buildings are younger. It was once an important place for merchants to rest and trade on the caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech.
It is recognized as one of the most complete example of ancient pré-saharian architecture in the world; leading UNESCO to declare it a world heritage in 1987.
The ksar is a stunning sight; with towers; red-earth houses set against the steep mountainside. It is laid out in traditional fashion: courtyards; homes; Mosques and Medersa (university); buildings are set around a center marketplace.
Immortalized in films such as the 1962 classic Lawrence of Arabia and 1977’s Jesus of Nazareth; and aldo in TV films like the global hit Games of Thrones.
Ait Ben haddou is now a tourist attraction and films location rather than a place for people to live.
As we advice our valued costumers, we suggest you to order for a delicious lunch in one of the Berber family’s house, instead of crowd in the touristic restaurants.
