If you are looking to experience Morocco’s highlights differently, we have chosen this itinerary just for you, cause it is absolutely different compared to others, from which we provide to each new corner, the best way to explore the South of Morocco, departing from Marrakech via the coastal city of Essaouira,then from there to the deep Morocco desert, through the city of Troudant (called small Marrakech),Taznakht (Carpets town), Foum Zguid the last city from which we deviate left, following a very long rocky path, until we get Iriki (dried lake which was full of water, about 60 years ago), reaching Erg Chegaga morocco desert sand dunes as soon as we can, before sun goes down. Time to enjoy a memorable and amazing sunset over the sand hills , while riding your very own camel which is guided by a professional camel guide, through the dunes. The ideal place where your imagination will make you feel at the end of the world.
Day 1: Marrakech airport
Arrival at Marrakech Menara airport, transfer direct to your hotel/riad.
Day 2: Marrakech-guided city tour
After you meet the guide, your journey will start by seeing the koutoubia mosque, visiting the Saadian tombs and Bahia palace, after that dive into the medina to discover its numerous secrets, including its huge maze of souks, breathtaking imperial architecture, and absorbing the atmosphere at djemaa el Fna, one of the world’s largest and busiest squares.
Ends your Marrakech city tour by visiting the Majorelle Gardens (optional visit), then back to your hotel around 3:00 pm.
Day 3: Marrakech to Essaouira
At 9:00 am, departure from your hotel, take the road west, towards Essaouira, through the city of Chichaoua and Ounagha.
As we approach to the town of Ounagha, we will be greeted by the sight of trees filled with strange dark shapes. The dark shapes we’ll soon realize, are goats-they perch implausibly on the highest and most delicate-looking branches to get at the fruit of the Argan trees.
This oddity represents the first stage in a process that powers the economy of the region. After they pass through the goats, the fruits are reduced to a hard, indigestible core. This hard nut is taken cracked, crushed, and roasted to extract Argan oil, which can be used for everything from cooking to beauty treatments.
Numerous cooperatives along the way, where dozens of women work to produce oils that are sold throughout Morocco and beyond.
We will stop to visit one of those cooperatives. Getting to Essaouira, overnight in a hotel or Riad.
Day 4: Essaouira-guided city tour
After breakfast, meet your guide at (10:00am), which is going to lead you to explore the city of Essaouira, overnight in a hotel/riad.
Day 5: Essaouira to Taroudant
9:00 am, we will leave Essaouira, and heading towards Taroudant, through the city of Agadir which means
Agadir is the capital of Morocco’s Souss-Massa-Draa region, and it is best known as a vacation hot spot where sprawling hotels, chic restaurants, and a suntan-guaranteeing, climate ensure it is always bustling with visitors. The city is also an important fishing port, which employs many of the local people and provides the country with much of its supply of sardines, one of the staple foods. A walk is highly recommended, stretch your legs alongside, and absorb the atmosphere of the crystal blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
Next we will drive for another 70 km west, straight to Taroudant: the city with its high and exceptionally thick crenelated ramparts walls topped by mighty, watchtowers make an imposing sight. Taroudant is no longer one of Morocco’s top-ranking cities, although it is still a major market town for the region. Once you get to your hotel, you might go for a walk, and exploring the city.
Day 6: Taroudant to Erg Chegaga
8:00 am, departure from your hotel, via Erg chegaga sand dunes, through the city of Taznakht which is well known for its green, yellow, red and white, geometric-patterned carpets, which have been woven here since 10D-9N Marrakech Desert Trip-Camel Trekancient times.
From here, we will be driving along the Anti Atlas Mountains to Foum Zguid where we will drive for another 70 km through a sandy and stony track, passing by Iriki: a dried lake which was full of water in the past (about 60 years ago), it was home for a large numbers of birds, and some wild animals such as: deer, desert foxes…
Getting to Erg chegaga sand dunes where you’ll be greeted by the bebers, put your luggage inside your nomadic tent, and then go for a ride on the camel, to watch the most beautiful sunset on one of the highest sand hills. Overnight in a nomadic tent.
After dinner, you will be invited around a big campfire, for relaxing, stargazing, while the nomads playing on their drums.
Day 7: Erg Chegaga to Zagora
Your journey will start by an early wake up, and say hello to the first rays of the amazing sunshine. After your breakfast, we will drive for about 50km, on a rocky and sandy path to the city of M’hamid.
Before we get to Zagora, don’t miss a stop at Tamgroute village which is really worth to visit. You will be accompanied by a local guide to discover this place, by visiting the Coran library, under ground passage, and the place where they make traditional pottery. From here, straight to Zagora, where we will be rewarded with one of the prettiest towns in Southern Morocco, full of bright cerise bougainvilleas, pink oleander bushes, and palm trees; overnight in a hotel or riad.
Day 8: Zagora to Tazentoute
Today we will mostly driving along the Anti Atlas mountains and the Draa valley, with its huge number of small Berber villages built on the banks, until we get to AGDZ.
From here we continue driving Ouarzazate (the movie’s city,it offten called:Hollywood of Africa). Visit one of the oldest buildings, dating from 18th century and renovated in the 19th century (Kasbah Taourirt), and the movie Museum. Have lunch in one of its restaurants overlooking the Kasbah, and then drive to AIT BEN HADDOU (UNESCO world heritage site).
Late afternoon, drive to the small village of tazentoute where you will be staying in a Berber family’s house.
Day 9: Tazentoute to Marrakech
After breakfast, a walk is highly recommended through the gardens and the old part of the village. From here, we will drive to Marrakech through the High Atlas mountains (Tichka pass 2260 m). Guetting to Marrakech where you will be dropped at your Hotel or Riad.
Day 10: Marrakech Airport
Transfer to the airport, depending on the time of your flight.
